TEAMER: Modeling of Wave Energy Converter-augmented Ocergy Offshore Platform Immediate Release Report
In this project, using the MATLAB/Simulink tool, WEC-Sim, initial simulations were performed of Ocergy's offshore data platform, the OCG-Data, to study the feasibility of augmenting this platform with several wave energy converters (WECs) affixed to platform structure. A target of 2 kW average annual power was identified as the minimum feasible harvest for a 4 WEC array. The effect of the WECs on platform motions and loads were considered along with WEC power conversion chain (PCC) loads. The investigation of the WEC-augmented OCG-Data platform presents a detailed case study that could be applied to attachment of WECs to a broad array of floating platform types including piers, observation decks, and floating wind turbines.
Included in this submission is the immediate release TEAMER post access report for this project and a link to the delayed release WEC-SIM files used in the completion of this project. The delayed release includes the boundary element method (BEM) models, hydrodynamic coefficients, and the WEC-Sim models used for time-domain analyses, as well as the data used to build the final report.
