TEAMER: OSU X Hinsdale & Sandia - LUPA Irregular Wave Uncertainty Laboratory Experiment
This processed data is from TEAMER testing through RFTS 7 at the O.H. Hinsdale Wave Research Laboratory in Corvallis, Oregon. This testing was conducted by Oregon State University (OSU) and Sandia National Laboratories in October and November 2023. The Laboratory Upgrade Point Absorber (LUPA) wave energy converter (WEC) was used for experimental testing in the large wave flume with a water depth of 3.695 m in the six-DOF moored configuration. LUPA is a two-body open-source point absorber WEC with a 1m diameter float and a stable, reactionary spar body. This testing campain is frequently referred to as "TEAMERLUPA2".
These results cover 4 undisturbed irregular wave conditions, each repeated 10 times, both without LUPA in the tank ("hydro") and with LUPA in the tank, for a total of 80 trials. Detailed uncertainty analysis was conducted for both the wave data and the LUPA power take-off data using the Monte Carlo Method. The combined and expanded uncertainty is reported for incident wave power, WEC captured power, and capture width, and all their lower-level input variables.
The WEC-Sim numerical models and CAD model for LUPA, as it was deployed in this experiment, are linked.
The raw data is provided for both irregular and regular waves but the processed data is only for the irregular waves.
The theory, methods, and results for this dataset can be found in published journal articles with the following information:
